Thank you for your interest in Saint Mark United Methodist Church.
At Saint Mark we understand our primary work to be that of creating community. "Community" is a sense of belonging in which persons connect – to God, to one another, and to themselves – through offering of themselves in ways that enhance the quality and meaning of life for all.
We base our work and life on the belief that we become whole and well as individual persons as we come to live in meaningful and healthy relationship other persons and the rest of creation.
When I worked at a mental health facility some years ago, our instructor one day said something that struck me as being so powerfully true. Describing the philosophy of the day-patient program that brought hurting and broken persons together day after day, he said, “What we try to do here is to create a sense of community for these persons. And we believe when we do that they get well. And until we do, they won’t.”
That is surely true of all of us, isn’t it?
At Saint Mark, we strive to create a community where all persons come to feel that they belong. And when that happens, we believe, persons get well and become what God means for them to be.
To accomplish that, we believe, involves a life-journey. We affirm that all of us continually need to grow, to stretch beyond our previous boundaries, to be challenged toward higher and deeper connections.
And we believe these connections bring us life.
We invite you to join us in that journey.
