Saint Mark United Methodist Repair Force

Smurf's volunteer to help with a variety of repair projects around the community and at the church. We receive our base financial support from Saint Mark, but we also depend on donations from others that we call "SMURF Angels" Anyone that would like to make a donation, or who would like to be on our team is welcome to bring their skills or come on board and learn from others, just call Marvin Pridgen at 864-944-8751 or email marvjane@hotmail.com.

The beginning of SMURF was about 1995 after we had started with the Salkehatchie projects. We decided that the need to help the needy was not just for a week during the summer, but all during the year We look for volunteers with lumber, plumbing, and electrical experience, as well as other skills to provide needed help.

We started out with a small budget and about 8 volunteers. As we obtained requests from Social Services, United Way, and word of mouth we began to get into the fix and repair business and gained help from additional volunteers. Today we have about 40 volunteers. We try to be as helpful as we can and try to select projects that are truly needy. We go and inspect each project prior to committing to do the job. We have a couple of storage facilities for building materials that are left over from projects and materials donated to the SMURF program.
