The Kairos Prison Ministry is a Christian, volunteer, lay-led, ecumenical, international prison ministry, in which men and women volunteers bring Christ’s love and forgiveness to incarcerated individuals and to their families. St. Mark has been a strong supporter of the Kairos Prison Ministry for many years. For more information, or to volunteer for Kairos, please contact Mack Cason at 864-884-4900 or "Mack Cason"<mack2009@yahoo.com> .
In addition to financial support, St. Mark members have baked thousands of homemade cookies (which are an integral part of a Kairos prison weekend), written notes and letters to men and women in prison, and participated in the 72 hour prayer vigil during Kairos weekends. A large number of St. Mark members (including many youth) have also participated in worship services held at McCormick Correctional Institution. A number of St. Mark members have served on Kairos teams at McCormick Correctional Institution for men, Leath Correctional Institution for women (Greenwood, SC) and also Kairos Outside which is a program for female family members of incarcerated men. Kairos weekends are held twice each year in the spring and fall. A team of 40-45 lay persons and clergy go into the prisons and minster to 42 inmates. The weekends begin on Thursday and end on Sunday evening. In addition to the Kairos weekend events, team members return to the institution one Saturday each month for follow up activities. Many lives have been changed through the Kairos Ministry Program which began in Florida in 1976 and rapidly expanded to the international ministry it is today.
