LIFE-SKILLS MENTORING

Volunteer mentors help members of our local community who are mired in economic disaster and homelessness or who are headed toward financial trouble. We teach life-skills which can help people begin to take control of their lives and escape the economic trap in which they find themselves. We support them and reward them as they work to meet agreed upon goals.

Saint Mark life-skills mentors volunteer through both the Ripple of One
organization and the Family Friends program of Oconee County.

Ripple of One is a not-for-profit organization created to help the children
by helping their parents.  Ripple of One uses a high ratio of mentors to
clients, goal-setting, rewards and financial counseling to encourage and
support parents’ efforts to improve their economic situation.

Family Friends is a family mentoring program sponsored by the Oconee
County Department of Social Services and the United Way of Oconee.  In
addition to mentoring, Family Friends also channels donations and guides
families to aid sources and resource programs.

Mentors attend training sessions and are invited to participate in an on-going
support  group.  A screening process determines who will be mentored.
