WINGS for the Lord

Wings for the Lord Youth Choir

Wings for the Lord youth choir is for any youth in grades 7 - 12.  We enjoy singing God's praises through song during worship services, special events, and in the community.  We began in 1995 and have toured each summer around the country singing for churches, children's homes, nursing homes, and retirement centers.  Each year,
as fundraisers for our tour, we perform two Dessert Theaters, dinners, yard sales. We also receive many donations from our Angel Sponsors .
We meet in the music suite every Sunday from 4:00 - 5:00 pm.

Wings Tour 2010

Wing’s for the Lord Youth Choir
Saint Mark United Methodist Church
Seneca, SC

Wings for the Lord youth choir from Saint Mark United Methodist church traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, for our 16th annual summer choir tour.  Churches in Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, and Georgia hosted our group.  Our concert featured songs that illustrate the need for our Savior as well as a drama presented by our senior class.

In addition to our concerts, we had the opportunity to help a neighborhood mission, All God’s Children, feed and care for children. We also were able to sing, play, and spend an afternoon with teenagers and adults with special needs at the Stewart Home for Special People in Kentucky.

Wings for the Lord choir, for youth in grades 7 – 12, began as a small group of youth wanting to celebrate God’s grace through singing.  To learn more about our choir, you may contact Donna Poston dposton@saintmarkumcseneca.org.

Dessert Theater

WINGS SPRING DESSERT THEATER

On Sunday April 18th the Wings Youth Chorus treated us to dessert….twice….the problem was that it was hard to tell what they meant by dessert. Was it the confections on the table or the outstanding performance? Nevertheless the performances at 4 and 6:30 provided everyone with an ample supply of both kinds. They started off with Gathering Songs and Again and Again with Anna Wilson and Jake Taylor. Then Everything to Me by Caitlin Sauer and Jake Taylor. Emma Baldwin performed a piano solo of The River Runs Through Me. In The Conspicuous Cross, Jake Anderson as Sam and Mike Walker as Jesus began a multipart portrayal of Sam’s decision to take up the cross of a Christian life. After every performance or two they would return with the next segment. Lance Glenn played the boss who lets Sam go over an issue with his faith. Later Sam and his girlfriend, Pamela, played by Katie Rogers part ways after she challenges him to choose between his faith and her. Sam’s crisis of faith is resolved when Jesus offers to bear the weight of the cross with him. In the end Sam’s comes to rely on the Lord and Jesus (Mike) closes the concert with a moving benediction. Meanwhile, the performances progressed with Faith Holly and Courtney Johnson performing The Promise. The 7th and 8th grader skit took place in a doctor’s office and inflicted everyone else’s malady on one hapless patient. Christy Cain and Leslie Lamson Scribner had everyone in stitches with their rendition of the Abbot and Costello classic, Who’s on First. The choir did a great job with Love Can Turn the World, and the whole audience was drawn into Seven Days of Tour. The In His Eyes performance of Shine Jesus Shine was in blacklight and it was a highlight even in the dark. Faith Holly and Aubrey Rushe performed Your Best Friend and were followed by the Senior Class in their cups with Screen Door. Watch the video and you will understand. The traditional Amazing Grace by Courtney Johnson and Taylor Wilson brought a lump to your throat. Erin Garland and Taylor Wilson plus the chorus sang That’s How Much I Need a Savior as the finale. We wish the Wing’s well on their trip to St. Louis and the money they raised with this excellent concert will surely help.
