The Contemporary Spirituality Class Invites You
For a Special Series of Classes

Saint Mark member, Fred Axelberd has written a book entitled, Coming to Faith: When Belief in Believing Is Not Enough.  He will spend several weeks discussing his book in the Contemporary Spirituality Class that meets in Room A106 at 10:15 am.  Copies of the book will be available for those who are interested.  You are invited to join the class beginning this coming Sunday, September 5.  Below is information about the book and the author.

"The clash between individual experiences of faith and traditional Christian beliefs is explored with the goal of helping to lessen the tension this conflict causes. Alternative explanations address the difference between faith and beliefs. Subject area titles include: Faith as complete trust and confidence; What is a Christian?; It's in the Bible; The One of All Being: Faith and the Fragrance of a Rose; Salvation and being born again; Understanding the Rapture as transformation; I pray, but secretly think it's a wasted effort; The Invisible Bible and Poetry: Intentional Living; Diversity in the early Christian Church; It's hard to be human!; Non-thesism and the ground of all being; A new Jesus Creed."

About the Author
"Frederick J. Axelberd earned a BA in Psychology and Philosophy from Hunter College. His graduate degrees include Master and Doctorate Degrees from the University of Florida in Rehabilitation Counseling and Education. Before turning his attention to organizational consulting and business development, Dr. Axelberd was a Licensed Psychologist and served as an Associate Professor of Psychology and Education in the University System of Georgia. As a Stephen Minister, Dr. Axelberd provided pastoral counseling, as well as organizational support for the establishment of a Grief Support Ministry at Sugarloaf UMC, Duluth, GA. Upon his retirement in 2005, Dr. Axelberd and his wife, Judith Gasnier, relocated to the lovely community of Keowee Key in the South Carolina Upstate. As a new member of Saint Mark UMC located in Seneca, SC, Dr. Axelberd has been a Spiritual Formation Team Member, led Bible study classes, and developed an interactive experiential Prayer Path."
