Postponed.......................The Undercurrents of the Uprisings in North Africa and the Middle East. It has been called by different terms: Arab spring, democratic movements, revolutionary waves, Islamic resurgence, etc. These movements started by a spark in Tunisia and fast spread to the squares and the streets in several countries. So far, these historical movements have caused the downfall of political leaders in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya. In this 5-session series the following dynamics of the region will be discussed: history, religion, global economy, technology and the international geo-politics.

The Parent You Want to Be: Who You Are Matters More Than What You Do (Part 1) is a 5-week study for parents with children of all ages! (Part 2 will be in February/March) Have you ever asked this question, “Do I have what it takes to be a good parent?” A lot of times parents need help, but nobody likes to ask for help. This study goes deeper than any technique of just getting kids to eat their broccoli and clean their room. It takes a Biblical approach into the traits parents want their children to have and what traits they want their children to see modeled in them. For this video series, cameras went into the homes of 20 families and captured real-life parenting moments. Some of these are funny moments and some are just completely honest moments that every parent can relate to. The study looks at what it’s like for married, single and blended families, expecting parents or even grandparents who are finding themselves raising their grandkids (because we all know children don’t come with instructions).

OTHER GREAT STUDIES AND EVENTS
Taking the Bible Seriously but not Literally Using Marcus Borg’s Reading the Bible Again for the First Time, we will examine interpreting our scriptures through an historical-metaphorical lens. The book is described as “A thinking person’s guide to the Bible: Many inside and outside organized religion are searching for an enlightened, contemporary way to be believers and to appreciate the profound richness of the Bible.” Using this scholarly book, the purpose of the class, as the title of the book suggests, will be to explore the possibility of ‘reading’ or interpreting the scriptures in a way that both makes sense in today’s world and unleashes it timeless, redeeming divine truths.
Day and Time: Tuesdays beginning on January 17 at 7:00 pm (end date to be determined)
Cost: $15 (includes the cost of the book)
Facilitator: Steve Morgan

Become Your Best Self is a 4-week series that will examine closely those things that keep us from becoming our best selves – the person that God created each if us to be. We will use the Enneagram, a personality typology, as a tool for self-discovery. We will then learn how the information that we learn from the Enneagram can help remove the blocks that keep us stuck in attitudes and behaviors that hold us back from being our best selves.
